Hot off the heels of my Nailing Your Elevator Speech Workshop, I am feeling that unique giddiness that comes from a special combination of fun, connection, and helping others in a big way. It was so rewarding to demystify the “Elevator Speech” and other Networking Principles before a small group of talented solo professionals, and see them leave with a smile on their face, feeling empowered.
It got me really fired up thinking about why I do this.
Here’s my “why”
I believe that you have unique gifts to share with the world.
I also believe that you have a unique audience of people who are meant to be served by you.
If you discover which gifts serve the greatest need, you can not only really help people, but you can also make a great living doing it too!
Soooo many people know what they are here to do (or they are a good part of the way there), but they get stuck connecting to their audience. If you can’t connect, it is a lose-lose game.
If it happens to you, you lose because you don’t get to share your passion, and your audience loses because they never got to benefit from what you had to give.
But, if you bridge that gap, you get to make a living doing what you love and helping the people who need you most.
Here’s a secret that I discovered along the way:
Discovering who you are, who your audience is, and how to present yourself effectively and authentically- that’s marketing!
It’s not stale and technical; it’s about who you are and how you connect.
THAT is awesome and why I love this so much.
You should know, I struggled for years to figure out how to connect to my true calling. But I am determined, if not a bit obstinate, and I refused to remain stuck in traps of workplace boredom and muted self-expression.
It’s not always easy in the immediate to find your own way, but in the long term it’s worth it.
You can do work that you love, and that serves others at the highest level and compensates you generously (if that’s what you want).
I love sharing my gifts to help talented, giving solo professionals shares theirs. It’s what inspired me to write this post after a full week in my business and a workshop this afternoon!
