Do you ever get overwhelmed when you look out at the vast online universe and see so many business owners doing similar things as you? Or maybe things you are wanting to do?
Perhaps they showed up on the scene first, or they are sharing an idea the way you'd like to share it...or they started developing a fan base on a new platform you haven't touched yet (but perhaps you'd like to try).
When our focus goes outside of us and into the territory of comparison and competition, overwhelm often follows. I don't just know this because of how many coaches and creatives I've supported over the years. I know this because I've personally experienced it.
Overwhelm is a call to refocus.
When we are overwhelmed, we are temporarily disconnected from the simple (but profound) truth that when it comes to solving an urgent problem for your tribe through your coaching, teaching, creativity...
There isn't really any competition...Not when you own your message.
The way you describe who you are and what you stand for, who you serve and why you love serving them, is as unique as you.
Will you own it?
The opposite of owning it is staying general, saying you do "everything" and serve "everyone." Ok well...what is unique about you?
Owning it is about getting specific. It's about putting words to your gifts, your specialty. It's about saying, these are the people I was born to serve.
The more specific you get, the more any idea of competition, comparison and scarcity melts away.
It starts with Knowing Yourself
What do you stand for?
Who do you love to serve?
How do you help?
Then, you have an opportunity to joyfully Express Yourself...
...online, offline, wherever you can and wherever your tribe is hanging out. It's that simple!
As you do, you can check:
Are you excited about what you are offering?
Is it aligned with you and what you stand for, or are you talking about what you think you "should" share and sell?
Are you choosing fun ways to share?
For instance, if you hate writing, maybe skip the blog and record a video, or go mingle at an event because here's a lesser talked about secret: Promoting your business should feel good, like doing something important and fulfilling, that's actually how you know you're on track. If it doesn't feel like that, something needs adjusting.
So to recap, there truly is no competition, especially as you own your unique message and purpose. There is no greater antidote to business or marketing overwhelm, and getting clear on your message will make you more effective everywhere you go.
Now ask yourself those questions, and get sharing 🙂
