What are you grateful for?
I am grateful for:
- Doing the work I love (for a living!)
- Inspiring others to grow soul-filling, money-generating businesses via practical tools and support in marketing & branding
And yet, unless you’re in my inner circle, you may not know the trials and tribulations that paved my path from creative dreamer to successful solo business owner.
In honor of Thanksgiving and my gratitude for you, I want to share with you some of my challenges along the way, in case in hearing about my journey, you are accelerated on your path towards everything you want in your life.
Almost exactly five years ago, my life was turned upsidedown by a debilitating injury that left me in nonstop chronic pain.
The injury and pain were so intense that I had to stop working completely, I had to give up my beloved apartment, and I had to move back in with my mom. I had never experienced a health crisis like this before. Sometimes the muscles in my arms would spasm all night. Like torture. I felt like my body was a prison and I didn’t know if I would get through it. Everything I had worked toward (even the money I had earned up to that point in my life) was gone. I was broke. I was starting over. I was scared.
And then halfway through my 2 year injury, I found coaching. When I first went to coaching school, I couldn’t take notes because my arms were so weak that I couldn’t write. But I could listen, and I could focus on others. I discovered I was quite good at the art of helping someone take steps toward their dream. And then, the completion of my training ended up leading to my first job as a coach, which opened the door to my first big opportunity in marketing.
The other thing that happened, in the middle of rebuilding my life from the ground up, was I met my partner Chris. There was a time when I wondered if I could ever be in a lasting relationship, if the kind of relationship I wanted was even possible. Before Chris, the longest relationship I ever had was four months, and now we’ve been together for four years! He is my soul mate.
And you know the rest of the career story. How grateful I am to have grown a business, built out of my passion and skill, that allows me to be ME, the real ME, and in turn allows me to impact others in a meaningful way. I would never had imagined 5 years ago when I was broke and injured that 5 years later I would be growing a six-figure business and coaching others to do the same.
Don’t get me wrong, you don’t get the relationship or the business and never struggle again. Sometimes in your relationship, you fight about stupid little things that don’t matter, sometimes you feel scared, and sometimes you hide. Sometimes in your business, you put too much pressure on yourself, you forget about work-life balance, you question if it’s possible to reach your goals. Fears and obstacles come up, but oh how I am so thankful to be continuing on this path. I used to dream of speaking on national stages- it is happening. I used to long to be a writer- it is happening. I used to dream about traveling, but hardly ever do it- I will be working from San Diego for 10 weeks next year, as a sunny travel departure from my hometown of Portland. Why? Because I can!
And so with that, I encourage you to keep going. No matter where you are in your business, no matter where you are on the path to creating your ideal life– Keep Going. If I can do it, so you can you. And you and everything around you will be better for it.
Thank you for being you.
